What did I miss at Dragoncon this year?

If either Eliza Dushku or Joss Whedon showed up, you will all feel my vengeance.

I still:

• Feel like hell
  
• Don't know what to do
  
• Am whining on livejournal to avoid actually calling anyone and whining to them. (It distributes the annoyance evenly amongst many people instead of heaping all the whine on one person's head.)

I wish I were less stupid.

So, as mentioned earlier, I've been having crazy depression stuff going on lately and now I'm on an epic quest to make myself cry. It shouldn't be this hard- I'm spending a lot of time everyday mentally kicking myself so i'm obviously not happy. I've tried watching sad movies (Schindler's List, Titanic, When the Wind Blows), listening to a sad country song that used to get to me when I was younger, thinking about people I love dying, thinking about dying myself (which leads to not-good trains of thought), thinking how pathetic my life is, etc. Nothing's really working- I either get angry or kind of a dead, nothing feeling.  If I could just have a good cry I think it would help.

I don't know what to do. About the crying thing and in general. Nothing really sounds like a good option. 

Any tearjerker suggestions?

I'm sorry about not posting for a while- RL's kind of getting me down and I don't have much of interest to say.

Because of money and other stuff, I'm not going to be able to do Dragoncon this year. Sorry- I'll miss you all and I'm sure I'll be kicking myself that weekend. Have fun.  

I just heard about the tornado. I hope you guys are OK! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you out- I'll probably be calling tonight just to double-check if I don't have any word from you and I have your number.

My friend Anthony's visiting me from Florida and we're going to be running around Austin doing stuff all weekend. If you want to join in the fun, call me at 706-247-1479.

So, I'm going to a haunted house tonight with some friends and I'm an enormous wuss. Eeep! Any advice from fellow scaredy-cats out there?

This Wednesday, Oct 24 at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakecreek (183 & Lake Creek Parkway)- We're playing as part of the  Dismember the Alamo  zombie film festival. We're playing a COMPLETELY FREE set at 9:30. Come for the music, stay for the food/beer/zombie footage playing in the background.

 

This Saturday Oct 27 at the Hideout- We're the opening act for the  Big Star Burlesque  show at 8pm. Admission costs about $14.

 

Next Wednesday Oct 31 at the Parlor (on North Loop)- We're playing a FREE Halloween show with some other local bands. I think this will start around 8pm.

You know, I'm always thinking of passionate, profound posts to make to my journal (I know-sure I am), but I always end up posting stuff like this.

I seriously worked on this for an hour when I had tons of other stuff to do.  I hope there's no life after death so I'll never have to account for all the time I've spent on Survivor over the years.

I saw Flight of the Living Dead at Fantastic Fest this past week. If you're like me (but not enough like me to have been at the screening), you'll inevitably end up watching the newly released DVD at some point in the future. In order to make that experience more bearable for you, I'm posting my official drinking game. Trust me- this will make the whole experience go down a lot smoother.

• Drink if a character dies twice (in human form-zombies don't count). I think I counted 3 major characters who did this, not including the guy at the end who was bitten but never turned.
• Drink if, despite years of good movie knowledge, characters deliberately shoot zombies somewhere other than their heads.
• Drink if a female character is called a "bitch". (Note for lightweights- you might want to stick to drinking when female characters are referred to as something other than "bitch".)
• Drink when you want to slap the head flight attendant.
• Drink if one of the good guy characters deliberately does something which could either a) immediately cause the plane to crash or b) infect the rest of the world with the zombie virus.
•  Drink whenever someone gets dragged into the hole. (You'll know which hole when you see it.)
• Drink if there's a shot where you can tell the special effects budget ran out halfway through filming. Drink twice if there's fairly decent special effect followed by one that's so horrible it makes you cringe in embarrasment for the team.

Bottoms up!

 

FYI-I'm not going to be answering my phone from Wednesday to Sunday because I'll be out of the country at this. Don't feel snubbed and wish us luck on our obviously destined record deal. :)

Apparently the Dark is Rising movie isn't showing at any of the Alamo Drafthouses in town. That sucks because I want to get really, really drunk while watching that movie (so I have an excuse when I start crying/ranting/having seizures). What will I do?

Those of you who say "just don't go to the movie" have no understanding of my geeky masochism. (Although you should- you all went to see the Star Wars prequels, right?) This film will nag at me until I can find out just how bad it really is. I'm hoping it goes into "so bad it's good" territory- the leaked plot details (there's a snake battle, Will has an evil twin) seem to be pointing that way.

In other Dark is Rising updates, Susan Cooper (the author) was interviewed on NPR earlier today. She said, and I quote, "You do have to do violence to a book to make it into a screenplay — the two mediums are so different. But the alteration is so enormous in this case. It is just different."

That's polite, older British lady for "I hope those rot in for what they've done to my book!"

Just because I'm not religious anymore doesn't mean that I don't like me some Bible from time to time:

I love the Bible's economic apocalypses the best (even though they're the ones I would be on the wrong side of).  :)  How did the most Christian-identified nations become the richest ones anyway? 

So, my tongue has always been unusually white with some pink around the edges. My blood tests have never come back as abnormal except for occasional mild anemia. What could this be caused by? Am I not eating enough of something?

Not even God has to be up this early on a Sunday.
